Why The Magic of the Holidays is Important
Our founder Joanna is a firm believer in the magic of Christmas. With everything going on in the world, we thought there’d be no better way to end 2020 than to share our top 10 reasons why the magic of the holiday season is important instead of serving you with the traditional push for sales or holiday gift roundup. In 2021, we’ll get right back to giving you practical tips for memorable experiences… we promise!
Its The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
The magic of Christmas encompasses the magic of every other holiday on the calendar. There are gifts just like your birthday…. great food like Easter, Passover or Thanksgiving, lights and fun decorations like the 4th of July, extended time off like labor day weekend… and the list goes on. If you ask us, nothing is quite as magical as wrapping all of the holiday fun from the rest of the year into a few consecutive weeks!
Emphasis On And Appreciation For Family
During tumultuous times like these, staying home or going home for the holidays takes on a new meaning. Visiting family can sometimes feel like a chore, but the limited travel brought on by the pandemic has shone a light on what a privilege it is to spend time with your family members, both blood and relatives and friends so close you' think your parents are lying. The magic of the holiday season is a time where you truly get to catch up with those close to you.
There’s Increased Focus On Being A Good Human
Unless you’re a complete scrooge, the holiday season brings out all the feels and makes us extra nice to each other. Being from New York, Joanna can attest to the random generosity that comes as a result of the holiday season being in full swing. On top of that, it’s a time we can instill the spirit of giving into children (“be good for goodness sake!”).
The Magic Of The Holidays Is The Perfect Time Of Year To Reflect On What Brings You Joy And Why
One of the greatest things about the holidays is the multitude of ways to celebrate… or boycott! You can spend the season alone at home with a bottle of wine, with the one(s) you love, surrounded by a great big family, spoiling your fur baby, continuing the vibes of friendsgiving with your closest friends, or meditating on your faith. No matter what you do, this time of year can show you what brings you joy and why.
Sparkle Brings A Little Magic To Everyones Life
There’s a certain whimsical nature of all things holiday themed that give us hope. The snow, the lights, the glitter… these are the things that bring a touch of magic to our lives during this time. That little bit of sparkle that touches everything curls our mouths into a smile… even if only for a short time.
The End Of The Year Brings New Goals Into Focus
The holidays come at the end of the year, which naturally brings reflections on what’s to come. The magic of the season gives us permission to dream a little bigger and truly imagine our life’s possibilities without apology or restraint.
Spirit of giving
Similar to #3, holiday magic teaches us that it truly is better to give than to receive. This season, try to find joy in giving meaningful gifts instead of forcing yourself to spend money out of obligation. Make your gifts say “hey. I’m glad you made it through this year and I’m privileged to have you in my life”. It’s contagious!
Indulgent food
We can’t be the only ones whose love language is food…. are we??? Warm cozy drinks and extravagant baking abound during the holidays, and that’s reason enough to be considered magical if you ask us!
Time Off
While there are a few long weekends scattered throughout the year, tons of people in today’s culture still carry the ‘always on’ mentality with them and rarely take true time off to unplug. For most, the holiday season brings with it the longest stretch of time off which ushers in deep relaxation, more comfy clothes, and less things to fret about.
Sports
Similar to #2, cheering on your home town and catching up on your team stats without juggling work in between brings its own emphasis on family. Even if all you have in common with someone is a sports team, that’s saying a lot! The holiday season is when college teams participate in various bowls and tournaments, and people usually bogged down with life can cheer on their alma mater.
No as you may know, we don’t believe in the commercialization of any holiday or occasion. We do however, believe in magic. And the holiday season is the perfect time to give yourself permission to believe in magic, dream bigger, and love harder.
Team EE will see you all in the new year. Be safe, and as always, stay present in all of your everyday experiences.
